Nanci Barthelmess’ blog

Welcome, Peng!

Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 10 October 2007

I have added my brother, Peng, as a contributor to my blog. He’s the tech of the family, and he’ll post some about tech issues that he comes across.

I’ve posted some things for him before, like the news about the Mass. Ubuntu LoCo Team earlier today,  and he’s the one who actually got me set up with my blog, but I told him that he needs to write some posts himself, since he knows a lot more about some of these things than I do. (You wouldn’t beleive how many questions I’ve had to ask him as I wrote some of these posts.)

Make him feel welcome, everyone. And feel free to ask him questions, especially about Ubuntu. He’s who I turn to with my questions.

Thanks for the warm welcome, sis. And thanks for posting some of those articles for me. To be honest with you guys, I actually dictated some of the posts she’s made, which I think is a big reason she had me get a WP.com account of my own. I think she was getting tired of having to blog for me, but she’s right in adding me to her blog. I actually had my own blog earlier this year but got tired of how much time maintaining it was taking so I closed it down. We actually had a big discussion about whether she’d get a blog or I’d get a new blog, but I told her I wanted her to have a way to promote her pictures on Flickr and her store in SL, so she got the blog.

Hmmm….I’m SO not buying the “dumb female” role Nanci. I know for a fact you are at LEAST as smart as Peng. Don’t sell yourself short! At the very least, call it a “partnership”! No worries Peng…I have always respected your brain as well. But do give your sis some credit where credit is due. Love you guys!

Who said Nanci’s dumb? Certainly not me. I’ve simply been working with technology and Ubuntu longer so I have a little more experience in those areas than Nanci has. But in other areas? I’m a bit of an idiot compared to her (not just because I’m a guy and she’s, well, not). And if she says otherwise she’s being modest. And a liar. :p

There are a few posts Nanci and I am talking about my writing, such as how to convert Windows Media audio files into open source Ogg Vorbis files (I have more files than she does and I’m the one who tracked down how to do it so I’ll write the tutorial). I’ll also write a post around when Ubuntu Gutsy gets released (in FOUR DAYS! as I write this) about the things we’re using that’s not natively in Gutsy (including a few apps that are available in Gutsy that we’re taking from the developers). She asked me to write that one since I’m the one who knows a little more about Ubuntu than she does and I’m the one who’s doing the work within the community on behalf of both of us. She’s written a few posts about Ubuntu for me that we’re thinking of changing the authorship credit to me for and I’ve done some things in the Ubuntu community for her, so she said I’ll write most of the Gutsy posts in the future. I’ll also be writing some posts about Firefox 3 which I’m already starting to test.

But you’re right, Susannah, the blog is a partnership between us. She’s getting the billing for now because when it got started I wasn’t ready for the demand of maintaining a blog again just yet. I could get my own blog, but she’s asked me to just work with her on her blog and post here from time to time.

Nanci does rock, and I’m damn proud of my little sister. I consider it an honor to be able to help her with both Ubuntu and her blog, as well as her store. We’re toying with the idea of reopening my RL t-shirt store for some of the shirts she sells in SL. She’s actually made a few tees (not designs she got from me) that I’m dying to wear IRL. She just wants to try to find a way to sell RL cropped and shorty tees, which is part of what’s slowing that down.

Ok, Ok, Peng – Uncle already! LOL You know I love the both of ya. Peng, you were my very first friend in SL, you know that. And Nanci, well, Nanci was also a first for me of a very different sort. *wink

I think some RL tees would totally ROCK. Although with my RL body I think I’ll stick to traditional shapes tyvm. Although a v-neck would be nice.(hint hint)

Nanci I do not know why you are so surprised this blog gets as many hits as it does. You are too modest. Your writing is clear and concise and the blog provides people with info they want to know in a very accessible format. Kudos darling! And keep up the good work.
