One of the sites I mentioned on my old blog was a way to see the countdown to the start of the new year in cities all over the world. It took me some hunting, but I found it and wanted to share it with everyone on this blog. Read the rest of this entry »

Alas, poor Netscape, we knew it well
Posted by BostonPeng on 29 December 2007
The Netscape blog has announced that as of 1 February 2008 all support for their browser (for all versions) will come to an end. That means no more security upgrades from AOL for the browser they bought back in 1998. But is it bad news or good news? Read the rest of this entry »

I can’t believe I forgot these links
Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 29 December 2007
One of my roomies finally got sick and tired of Windows XP insisting on installing IE7 despite her repeated instructions not to and she asked me to install Ubuntu on her computer in a dual boot configuration. In addition to a couple of pages I have bookmarked for tasks to do after an installation I referred to posts in my blog to get her computer set up. There’s just one problem. I realized that Peng and I had forgotten to include some links on a couple of our posts. D’oh! I’ve gone through and fixed them, and rather than letting you find them on your own I wanted to list the updated posts in one place for you. Read the rest of this entry »

Getting 1280×1024 resoultion back in SecondLife
Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 28 December 2007
Ever since I reinstalled Ubuntu last month I haven’t been able to use my preferred 1280×1024 resolution in SecondLife. JibJab closes out 2007
Posted by BostonPeng on 22 December 2007
One thing that I always posted on my old blog was JibJab’s year in review videos. They’re always funny, quite often snarky, and definitely worth the bandwidth to download them. They’re so good they usually end up on the evening news although I haven’t seen them yet there this year. (Granted I stopped getting my news from the NBC affil and went back to the local CBS station to try to get away from so much flash masquerading as news so that may be why I didn’t see it on tv yet.) Apple gets a QuickTime update out
Posted by BostonPeng on 21 December 2007
Earlier this month I wrote about a QuickTime flaw that forced SecondLife to recommend that everyone disable video streams except from trusted sources. I’m glad to be able to report that Apple has put out am update to QuickTime that closes this vulnerability and SecondLife is getting ready to help make sure you’re protected.
