Aussie Firefox users get discount

People who use Firefox are always having to deal with websites that use “browser sniffing” to discover what browser they use and tell visitors that they should use something other than Firefox to visit their site. The ones I love are the ones that see my testing browser come in (especially when I’m using something like a nightly build of the next version, such as Firefox 3) and tell me I need to use a newer browser. As if there were such a creature.
But a computer and electronics store in Australia has decided to reward people who use Firefox with a 5% discount in their new e-store.
The store is Tekfix, an Australian computer hardware and electronics retailer, and they actually have a good reason for being so partial to the Fox. According to Tekfix’s Marketing Manager, Tony Schirmer, “In my experience Mozilla has provided more security and an overall better experience when browsing the Internet. We want to reward people who take the next step and try the browser for themselves.” (Read the entire press release)
To get the discount you just need to use coupon code firefoxed during checkout. There were some issues with their website code when Percy Cabelo checked it out while writing his story for Firefox Links the other day, but hopefully this problem has been fixed.
And despite what the store does in their press release and promotional graphic, Firefox is not spelled with the second “F” capitalized. I don’t know where that misspelling started, but I wish people would stop doing it. [pandarant]Firefox is a fantastic open source web browser. I’m not sure what the hell a FireFox is, but that’s not how we spell our favorite browser’s name. [/pandarant]
Thanks to Mozilla’s Asa Dotzler for bringing this story to my attention.
