We all know that there are some questions that a prospective employer shouldn’t ask, but Tech Republic documents ten questions that are flat out illegal, including a few I wouldn’t have balked at answering. Until now.
We all know that asking about someone’s age and nationality is verbotten here in the States, but you also can’t be asked where you were born, or even what your native language is. You also can’t be asked if you’re married or have any children. whether they celebrate specific holidays, or even when you graduated high school or college. It’s also illegal to ask if you’re in the Nation Guard or if you smoke or drink. (Of course they can stipulate that you don’t smoke or drink while on the clock, but what you do on your own time is none of their damned business.)
If you’re going on an interview soon, or have to interview someone as a part of your job, you owe it to yourself to read Steer clear of these 10 illegal job interview questions from Tech Republic.
