Gendarmerie Nationale to go Ubuntu
Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 31 January 2008
Chris Kenyon, Canonical’s director of business development, announced yesterday that the Gendarmerie Nationale, the French national police force, will be moving all of their almost 7,000 computers to Ubuntu.
The Gendarmerie, the French equivilent of our F.B.I., looked at the cost of upgrading their computers from Windows XP to Vista, saw that they could save over 7.5 million Euros (approximately #10.3million US) and knew the change had to be made. It makes sense, seeing that the French National Assembly is already running Ubuntu.
