The Lindens have been busy. We have yet another Release Candidate for SecondLife
Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 9 February 2008
Tuesday I told you about the first Release Client for SecondLife version 1.19.0 (RC0), and they’ve already fixed a bunch of bugs. The result is the second Release Client, SecondLife 1.19.0 RC1.
There are ten fixes and addition to the viewer since RC0 came out, but there are still a lot of bugs that still need fixing. They’re hard at work at fixing the problem caused by changing the second row of buttons from having specific locations to being left justified. I myself have detached my AO a couple of times because I either thought it was a new IM or I was going for the new, smaller local chat button. But it looks like a possible solution is being tested for inclusion in the next RC.
There is a workaround that you can apply yourself for the Release Keys button problem. Go into the directory where it’s installed (and if you’re testing the Release Candidate you do know where that is, right?) and drill down into the <install_directory>/skins/xul/en_us directory In that folder make a copy of the panel_overlaybar.xml file (as a backup in case you need to get the edits back) and delete these lines:
<button bottom=”1″ follows=”left|bottom” font=”SansSerif” halign=”center” height=”20″
label=”Release Keys” label_selected=”Release Keys” left=”229″
name=”Release Keys” scale_image=”true”
tool_tip=”A script has taken control of your keys. Click here to release them.”
width=”102″ />
Save the changes and fire up the SecondLife 1.19.0 RC1 and voila! No more Release Keys button.
They’re also working on VWR-5422 Cannot use Alt-arrow to change between tabs in Communication window, a problem that continues to annoy a number of us.
All in all, version 1.19.0 of SecondLife looks pretty nice, other than a few annoying little bugs. Want to help get it ready for everyone to use? Read the SL blog post to get the details on this new RC and then go download it from the SL test software page. I just wish they’d roll out a new Windlight viewer based on the new code. I crashed at least half a dozen times today while trying to get pictures of my new tee so I could get it on sale.
