Get Your Fresh Firefox!

No, it’s not news that Firefox 3 has a release date, or that Firefox 3 Beta 5 is out (although that’s coming soon). No, this is the news that Firefox 2.0.0.13 is now out with security and stability updates for users on the Linux, Mac OSX and Windows platforms.
There are several security fixes, including two high risk and two critical security fixes. There are also improvements that make Firefox 2.0.0.13 more stable than previous versions.
You can get all the info on this update in the release notes, and if you haven’t been prompted to accept the upgrade yet it will happen soon. You can also get the upgrade by using Help > Check for Updates…
If you’re finding that you’re behind a firewall the Firefox Support site has some tutorials about how to configure Firefox to get past your firewalls.
What if you’re still using Firefox 1.5? Forgive my rudeness, but what the hell are you waiting for? Mozilla has stopped supporting your browser almost eleven months ago. Go to getfirefox.xom and get the newer browser for crying out loud. Not only will you crash less and be able to use more of the websites out there better, you’ll also protect yourself from some security vulnerabilities that aren’t getting patched anymore. Or do you truly enjoy battling virii, worms and other malware?
Before anyone suggest I “dial it down a little” I’ll say right now that ain’t gonna happen. Firefox 1.5 has been replaced for well over a year and Mozilla’s been saying for too bloody long that they don’t support it anymore. People who use such outdated software actually put the rest of us at risk (well, they put other Windows users at risk) just as much as people who don’t update their firewall software and anti-virus definitions. Or who trust Microsoft to have the best security products available. Puh-leeze.
