Starbucks rolls out Pike Place Roast
Posted by Peng on 10 April 2008
On Tuesday Starbucks, the coffee chain that has shown millions around the world what good coffee should taste like, rolled out a new daily brew, Pike Place Roast. I gave it a try and I’m have decided whether I like it or not. Being from Starbucks isn’t a guarantee I’ll like it, either, since I’d sooner drink Dunkin’ Donuts coffee (which I hate) than drink Starbucks House Blend.
First off, Pike Place Roast is a milder coffee, and having grown up with coffee and chicory a mild coffee tends to turn me off, although I’ve been known to rave about Starbucks’ Casi Cielo as well as a mild blend that is no longer available and whose name I can’t remember for the life of me. But after having a couple of cups of Pike Place I can say that it’s better than their House Blend, but when I go in to Starbucks I’ll have to get a cup of their bold coffee du jour. Pike Roast isn’t bad, it’s just too mile for my taste.
The good news is that they are still having a bold coffee every day, so people who prefer a nice strong cup of java dont have to resort to having to get an espresso drink when all they want is a nice cup of strong drip coffee.
There’s also another new goodie available at Starbucks. If you have one of their prepaid Starbucks Cards make sure you go to their website and register it. By doing so you get three perks:
- Get an espresso drink and your syrup and milk options are on the house
- Get a cup of brewed (drip) coffee with your card and refill are free (as long as you bring your cup and ask for a refill)
- Get a pound of whole bean coffee and get a free tall of beverage of your choice at no charge. (A free Tall cup of coffee used to be free anyway, but now they’re wanting you to use your Starbucks card to purchase it to get the freebie.)
You can get all the details on the Starbucks website, but if you love coffee it’s hard to go wrong with this new promotion. Granted, not everyone likes Starbucks, and I can’t help you there Just please don’t offer me a cup of coffee that I can see the bottom of the cup through. If you do be prepared for me to ask if you ran out of brown crayons while you were making it. :p
