Two great links for people new to Ubuntu
Posted by Peng on 25 April 2008
As I was finishing up yesterday I found two great links that I wanted to let everyone know about. One is for people burning their own Ubuntu Hardy disks and one is a great reference for people getting the hang of Ubuntu.
One thing that always comes up when Ubuntu rolls out a new version is people want some artwork for their newly burned disks. The Ubuntu Wiki has some nice DIY artwork for 8.04 including
- Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition CD wallet artwork’ (pdf, hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition (64-bit) CD wallet artwork’ (pdf, hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition CD wallet artwork’ (pdf, hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition (64-bit) CD wallet artwork’ (pdf, hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Kubuntu 8.04 CD wallet artwork’ (pdf, hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Kubuntu 8.04 (64-bit) CD wallet artwork’ (pdf, hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Ubuntu 8.04 Education Edition Add-On CD wallet artwork’ (pdf and hi-res) and CD face artwork (pdf, eps)
- ‘Kubuntu 8.04 (KDE 4 remix) CD face artwork (pdf, eps), there is no CD wallet artwork for this version of Kubuntu.
Thanks to Nick Ali on Planet Ubuntu for yet another great link.
Jacob Peddicord, also from Planet Ubuntu, has an even better link for us. Whether we’re new to Ubuntu or have been using it for a release or more we can always use a cheat sheet of commands for the Terminal (command line). With that in mind Jacob has a great graphic called the Ubuntu Beginner Administrator Terminal Reference. That may seem like a mouthful but once you take a look at it you’ll wonder where it’s been all your Ubuntu life. I’m going to have to print this one out myself and put it in a plastic sheet protector next to my computer. It’s going to save me a ton of time looking through all of my scribbled notes.
Update Sat 26 Apr 1:18 PM EDT: My bad! the Ubuntu Beginner Administrator Terminal Reference is a PDF file created by the good people at FOSSwire. I hadn’t looked down the links when I was writing because I wasn’t at my primary computer and didn’t want to delay posting about it. But it is a PDF so you should snag that little kitten so you can have it ready as you need it. Please accept my apologies for not being clear about what it is.
