Gays can now get hitched in two states

California became the second state in the union that allows marriage between two persons of the same gender yesterday when their state Supreme Court struck down that state’s ban on gay marriage.
The 4-3 ruling declared that the state constitution “protects a fundamental ‘right to marry’ that extends equally to same-sex couples” according to a story in the Los Angeles Times. When the ruling takes effect in 30 days California will join Massachusetts in allowing gay marriage because the state Supreme Court realized that just because you love someone of the same gender as you doesn’t make you less of a person. Unfortunately the ruling doesn’t cover the hundreds of people who were married when the mayor of San Francisco allowed gay people to marry last year. Unfortunately they’ll have to tie the knot all over again.
Congratulations to the homosexual people of California, and “Well done!” to the California Supreme Court for not allowing bigotry to rule in their constitution. Two states down, 48 more to go.
