Bo Diddley has left the planet
Posted by Peng on 2 June 2008
Bo Diddley, a blues legend and rock pioneer, passed away today from heart failure at his home in Archer, Florida. He was 79.
Bo inspired musicians around the world since his recording debut in 1955 with his song “Bo Diddley”. Among the musicians that count him as an inspiration are James Brown, Mick Jagger, and Jimi Hendrix. He has appeared in numerous movies and television shows either as a musician whose songs are used in the soundtrack or as an actor himself. In Blues Brothers 2000 he doubled as an actor portraying a used car salesman turned musician who joined the Louisiana Gator Boys. He also joined bo Jackson in commercials for Nike in the 80’s that had the musician tell Jackson, “Bo, you don’t know Diddley.”
This is still breaking news as I write, but you can follow the coverage from the Los Angeles Times, CNN and your favorite news source. (Reuters doesn’t have the story on their site as of this writing.) You can also read the entry about him in Wikipedia.
Nanci and I rarely post obit notices like I did on my old blog, but when I saw the alert from the LA Times there was no way I could keep this off the blog.
