Mozilla quick turns the Firefox 2.0.0.16 security update

Posted by Peng on 16 July 2008

It was just two weeks ago that I blogged an update for Firefox 2, but the Mozilla devs wanted to get out another update for a pair of critical security bugs. If you’re still on Firefox 2 (yes, not everyone wants to run Firefox 3) you should get an automatic update notice in the next 24 to 48 hours. You can also force the upgrade by using Help > Check for Updates… Ubuntu users will have to wait for the update to make its way to the repos, but that should only take a few/several days or so.

For more inf on the changes in this new version read the Firefox 2.0.0.16 Release Notes, and if you want to download it so you can do a fresh install of it you can get a download link from the Mozilla Developers News announcement.

Remember, Firefox 2 will only get security and stability updates until mid-December so anyone not happy with Firefox 3 has about five months to find a new browser or use an older version of Firefox that isn’t being officially supported any longer. As always, if I find a good candidate to replace Firefox 2 that isn’t Firefox 3 I’ll post it. And comments have been disabled on this post thanks to the Firefox 3 fanbois who can’t understand that some of us just don’t like Firefox 3. No, I’m not referring to the majority of Firefox 3 users, just the very vocal, very annoying minority who insist on flaming people who haven’t enjoyed the Firefox 3 koolade.
