Peng’s links for Friday, 3 October
Posted by Peng on 3 October 2008
Sorry about the lag getting this posted. After enjoying the Dodgers game from last night (on to LA!) I had some housekeeping stuff to do, but I wanted to make sure I got this posted before I start the weekend.
- Risto H. Kurppa: Gimp 2.6. Gimp now uses the Cairo library so it looks better, and it’s even easier to use. I used it to work on some new wallpapers for my wallpaper rotation, and it really was easier to use. Packages are available for Ubuntu users (even Ubuntu Hardy users) so go ahead and get it before your friends beat you to using it.
- Risto H. Kurppa: Disk space analyzers. Risto did an incredible job looking at all of the disk space analyzers available for Linux (both GNOME- and KDE-based)and gives a great rundown with screenshots.
- Mackenzie Morgan: Intellectual Property & Some Politics. IP is a subject that makes a lot of eyes glaze over as they try to figure out what’s allowed and what’s not, but Mackenzie had a class about it and returns with once of the best explenations of what’s what. She’s got scads of links, including links to a bill that got passed in the Senate and may already be voted on in the US House of Representatives that we should contact our elected officials about. I apologize for not posting this link sooner.
- Giorgio Maone: Clickjacking Protection by Default. Giorgio posted an article recently about clickjacking that had gotten a littel too old to post when I finally got to posting links, but he was good enough to post a follow-up with information on making all browsers (not just Firefox 3) safe from malicious users who try to hijack your browser by sending your clicked link somewhere other than where it should go.
- DesktopLinux.com: Open-source image editing project launches. Nathive is a project you should definitely check out if you do image editing on GNOME, and Eric Brown’s article has screenshots and videos to help show you why you may get excited about it.
Have a great weekend, y’all!
