SecondLife is getting ready to roll out Dazzle, but there’s a workaround for the biggest complaint

Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 2 May 2008

The latest round of Release Candidates for the SecondLife viewer have been including the Dazzle “skin”, and yesterday they rolled out Release Candidate Viewer 1.20 RC5. Along with all of the other complaints about the new series of RC, including why haven’t they fixed the invisible skirt issue, one issue seems to be almost unanimously hated: The Dazzle skin is fugly! Luckily there’s a way to get rid of the hideous Dazzle skin. Read the rest of this entry »

SL on invisible skirts issue: It’s a network problem

Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 13 April 2008

[Updated to include a link to the JIRA bug. - Nanci]

Pastrami Linden addressed the issue with regular (non-prim) skirts being invisible in his recent Windlight Office Hours. According to Zen it turns out it’s a networking problem with packet loss. Sorry, but that sounds like a bunch of hooey to this girl. Read the rest of this entry »

SecondLife promotes the Linux viewer to Beta status

Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 5 March 2008

Ever since SecondLife started having a Linux version it’s been listed as alpha, although many of us felt shorted by that label. But that’s changed (a little) as SecondLife has released a beta version of the Linux viewer software. Read the rest of this entry »

Torley rolls out QuickTips

Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 5 March 2008

SecondLife 1.19.0.x is no longer an RC

Posted by Nanci Barthelmess on 29 February 2008

SecondLifeLast evening LindenLabs finally took the 1.19.0.4 client that many of us have been sing in Release Candidate form for some time now and gave it an official release. There are some nice fixes, but they have definitely published some changes that are pissing people off. (I would have blogged it last night but the announcement was kind of buried on the blog and I didn’t see it until I fired up Thunderbird to check my RSS feeds this morning.)

To add insult to injury, there were some security issues in the 1.19.0.4 release, so they quickly pushed out version 1.19.0.5 to fix them, as well as some annoying issues from early RC versions that hadn’t gotten fixed yet. Read the rest of this entry »
