A bug was discovered that made the random number generator that helped create your .ssh/id_rsa key less random than it should have been. What does this mean in plain English? It means that if you created an SSH key with Ubuntu Feisty, Ubuntu Gutsy, Ubuntu Hardy or Debian Etch you need to update an important OpenSSL file and regenerate your key ASAP. When I was a Windows user one of the apps that I loved was the WeatherBug. There are some Linux tools for getting weather information, but none of them rise to the level of information provided by WeatherBug. but now I find out that WeatherBug is adding a Linux version to their Mac and Windows offerings. When I re-installed Hardy recently I went through System > Preferences > Sessions and disable a number of things I don’t need running in an attempt to get this older, rather underpowered computer running a little better. Unfortunately I disabled one thing too many and my system started freezing on me when I tried to Quit (shutdown, restart, etc.). While looking for signs others were experiencing the same issue I came across the bug that has a fix for the issue. Read the rest of this entry »
