I’ve long been a proponent of buying ground meat in multi-pound packs and separating it into meal-sized Ziplock bags before I put it into the freezer, but I StumbledUpon something today that is so cool I’m going to have to try it. Read the rest of this entry »

Peng’s posted some great links here, and I’ve posted some of the links he’s shared with me, but what many of you don’t realize is that he also shares some fantastic links on Google Reader. Read the rest of this entry »

Peng and I have been talking about the theme we’re using on the blog, but neither of us could find a theme we like. We have, however, decided with the baseball season going so well and our favorite baseball team doing so well, we decided to simply change the color on the theme we’re already using to match better, as Peng says, the color of our blood.
What do you guys think? Leave a comment with your opinion of it. If everyone prefers the green we can change back easily. Otherwise we’re going to let our blog reflect not only one of our favorite colors but also an annual mantra for this time of year.

Part of my routine every morning is picking up a free copy of the BostonNOW newspaper either on the bus going to the subway or at the subway station, but yesterday there were no copies on the bus and nobody handing them out at the station. Today I saw why in the other free daily paper, the Metro. The parent company of BostonNOW has been sold and the new owners closed the paper as of yesterday due to the poor economy, despite the fact that circulation and revenue have been growing. On Tuesday Starbucks, the coffee chain that has shown millions around the world what good coffee should taste like, rolled out a new daily brew, Pike Place Roast. I gave it a try and I’m have decided whether I like it or not. Being from Starbucks isn’t a guarantee I’ll like it, either, since I’d sooner drink Dunkin’ Donuts coffee (which I hate) than drink Starbucks House Blend. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s the day after Easter (or as my believer friends call it, Resurrection Sunday) and I hope the Easter Beagle brought you lots of goodies yesterday. But if not it’s the day after Easter, which means it’s also Half-Price Chocolate Day!

I keep seeing that other blogs are linking back to this blog, which is fine, but the way it’s happening more often than not is not cool. This blog is published and licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial- Share Alike 3.0 United States License. This means that while you should feel free to repost my content, especially if you link it back to my original post, but if you do you are required to identify who wrote the original post, either myself or Peng.
Here’s what the license says about attribution (you can always click on the license image to see the full terms of the license):
Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
I’m seeing too many times my content showing up on other blogs as “unknown wrote” or “soandso wrote”. Just today I saw that Peng’s post on Amazon supporting Linux with its MP3 sales has shown up on a Christian studies blog (which I have no problem with), but on the blog it shows that someone named Caleb write it. Obviously Caleb is the bot the blog owner uses for going out and finding content to use (you could say Caleb steals the content) because I’m seeing Caleb’s name on a lot of posts that obviously came from other blogs. I’d have already emailed the blog owner but they’ve chosen not to provide any contact links, let alone any information on who runs the blog. Could it be that they know content publishers would know they steal content to post on their Christian blog and don’t want to hear from us?
Here’s the deal. If you want to mention something I wrote I don’t mind, as long as you give credit where credit’s due. If you want to quote a paragraph from a post here and give a link back to this blog you may do so as long as you name the correct author of the post (either myself or Peng). If you chose to do either of these without crediting the author you can expect an email from me insisting (not asking) that you either give the author credit or take down the post. If you don’t have a contact link on your blog I will use your domain to find out who owns it and contact them. I also retain the right to contact your ISP and inform them of your theft of this blog’s intellectual property. Also, any linkbacks that show up in my comments that link to a site that doesn’t credit our authors gets marked as SPAM. That’s the way I’ve always treated linkbacks like that. “Spring forward, fall back.”
That mantra is said by millions of people as they try to remember which way to set their clocks when Daylight Saving Time begins and ends.
It’s that time again. Read the rest of this entry »

It has just come to my attention that the Mac4Lin Transformation Pack , the tool many of us have used to bring the look of Mac OSX Leopard to their Linux systems, has been selected as one of 100 winners in the FOSS India Awards 2008. Congratulations to its developer, Anirudh Acharya, on being recognized for such an awesome program. It certainly is well earned. Read the rest of this entry »
