Last year Nanci posted that there were grammar checking tools for OpenOffice.org, the wonderful open source office suite, that takes care of one of the most glaring omissions and deal breakers in people looking for a cheaper alternative to Microsoft Office. [Corrected the info on using Street View in Google Earth. - Peng]
Google released the beta of Google Earth 4.3 a couple weeks ago, and there are some very nice features added including the sun and atmosphere, a new set of navigation tools, and even an implementation of Street View, although the GE Street View isn’t as easy as the one in Google Maps. If you’ll recall I upgraded to the Ubuntu Hardy kernel a couple of weeks ago, while still using Ubuntu Gutsy for the most part, and everything was going smoothly so after checking things on the forums and deciding it was safe to go ahead and do a dist-upgrade to Ubuntu Hardy. It definitely didn’t go well, though, and I spent most of the next 18 hours or so trying to get my computer usable again. I finally succeeded by installing from the Hardy Alpha 6 CD I had burned, but there were definitely some issues. Read the rest of this entry »

WINE, the ten yesr old open source program layer that lets Linux users run Windows programs (the name is an acronym for Wine Is Not an Emulator) is preparing for their 1.0 release in June and needs your help deciding which bugs absolutely need to be fixed before WINE 1.0 ships.
